How the place sees itself

The house sees itself as the opposite of a hotel: „less like a hotel and more like a private South African home shaped by art, wine and heritage". It rests on art, wine and cuisine as a way into the country, and on an explicit stance towards service, which is to be „never theatrical or overstated" but „intuitive, personal and quietly present". People carry weight of their own here; the house sees itself defined as much by its staff as by its setting and calls them „a collective of stewards, botanists, and curators". It sums up its understanding of hospitality in one sentence: „True hospitality is not seen in service itself, but in the way it quietly anticipates what is needed before it is asked for."

Translated from German

The real energy comes in the morning.

Looking from the terrace across the Atlantic towards Cape Town, with Table Mountain rising behind the house, is one of those rare moments that stay in memory for a long time.
